what we collect, and why
We collect very little. This is everything:

Your name, email address and whatever you choose to tell us, for example when you ask about stocking our ramen, suggest a flavour or suggest a shop. If you use our contact form, we also receive whether you said you are a consumer or a wholesaler/stockist, and the form delivers your message straight to our email inbox (our email is provided by Google).

Our lawful basis
Legitimate interests (running our business and answering people who contact us) or, where you ask about working with us, taking steps at your request before entering a contract.
How long
Up to 24 months after our last contact with you. If we start working together, we keep the records for as long as the relationship lasts and as the law requires.

What
Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested and the time. This is created automatically whenever any website is visited.
Why
To deliver the website to you, keep it secure and prevent abuse. It is handled by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages). We don't use it to identify or track individual visitors.

What
Which pages are viewed, which flavours are popular, which website or search sent you here, your country, your type of device and browser, how quickly pages load, and roughly how long you spend on a page. When you click "Buy now", you pass through a short page on our website on the way to OrientalMart, so we can count how many people we send there, and to which flavour. If you accept analytics cookies, we also record which buttons and links you click (for example "Buy now", "Find in store" or our email address), which flavours you look at, how you use the store finder (the shop you pick, never the postcode you type), and that a contact form was sent. We never record what you write in it.
How
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts this in aggregate without cookies, and always runs, whatever you choose below. Google Analytics gives us more detail, such as how visitors move between pages, using cookies - it only runs if you accept analytics cookies, and you can say no.

To understand which parts of the website are useful, which flavours people are interested in, and to improve it.

Legitimate interests for Cloudflare's cookie-free counting. Your consent for Google Analytics, which you can withdraw at any time.
How long
Cloudflare keeps this data for a limited period on its standard schedule. Google Analytics keeps data for 14 months before automatically deleting it.
We don't take payments, run accounts or keep a marketing mailing list through this website. We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for profiling or automated decision-making.
cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies in one place only: Google Analytics, and only if you accept it. If you don't accept, no cookies are set and nothing is read from or stored on your device at all.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets a couple of cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_*) that help it recognise repeat visits and measure how the website is used. These last up to 2 years, or until you clear them or withdraw consent.
You can accept or reject analytics cookies at any time, and rejecting is just as easy as accepting:
Cloudflare Web Analytics, which also helps us count visits, works without cookies, local storage or fingerprinting and doesn't track people across websites, so it doesn't need your consent and always runs.
Other things this website doesn't use: advertising or tracking pixels, social media plug-ins, embedded third-party video players, or third-party fonts. Our fonts, images and videos are all served from this website.
the store finder
The store finder is the only part of the website that involves other companies, and only when it is showing a map:
The map. The map software is loaded from the cdnjs service (run by Cloudflare) and the map pictures come from OpenStreetMap. Like any website you visit, these services receive your IP address and standard browser details when your browser asks them for the files. We don't send them anything else.
Searching by postcode. If you type a postcode, it is sent to postcodes.io to work out where it is. We don't receive or keep it.
"Use my location". Only if you press the button and allow it in your browser. Your location stays in your browser to sort stores by distance. It isn't sent to us.
"Directions". This link opens Google Maps in a new tab, and only if you click it.
who we share personal data with
Service providers who help us run the website and our email, such as Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages) (which also provides our cookie-free visit counting), Google (Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies) and our email provider. They only act on our instructions.
OrientalMart. When you click Buy Now you leave our website and go to OrientalMart, which takes and delivers orders. It is a separate company and its own privacy policy applies to anything you do on its website. We don't receive your order details.
Others where the law requires it, such as regulators or law enforcement, and professional advisers when we need their advice.
Some providers may process data outside the UK. When they do, we make sure the transfer is covered by UK adequacy regulations or appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
be told what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
have inaccurate data corrected;
have your data deleted, in some circumstances;
ask us to restrict how we use your data;
object to us using your data on the basis of legitimate interests;
receive your data in a portable format, where that applies;
withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. It's free. We'll reply within one month, and we may need to check who you are first. If a request is particularly complex we may need longer, and we'll tell you why.
complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, please tell us first at [email protected]. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it properly, and tell you the outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, helpline 0303 123 1113. You don't have to complain to us first.

Security. The website is served over HTTPS, and we limit who can see anything you send us.
Children. This website is for a general audience and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect children's personal data.
Other websites. We link to other websites, including OrientalMart. We're not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
Changes. If we change how we handle personal data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
